Our story
Over 50 years of history
and a story to tell for generations
Herbert Walton Antiques is the latest incarnation of a long and illustrious era in the world of Antiques for the Butterworth family. Recently formed by Jane and Laura, the loving daughters of the original owners John and Mary Butterworth, Herbert Walton becomes the new generation in antiques.

How it all began...
With John Butterworth having originally started his Antiques ‘Apprenticeship’ over 50 Years ago. John would travel the length and breadth of Britain selecting only the most exceptional pieces of Antique Furniture, then lovingly strapping them to the Roof of his Morris Minor and setting off for his next destination.
His expert story telling of the heritage and craftsmanship of these fine pieces of 17th, 18th and early 19th Century Antiques suited him well. Before long John realised his eye for Fine Antiques coupled with his charismatic storytelling personality was to prove his successful destiny.
With his loyal wife by his side, Mary Goody, it was pedal to the metal as he ventured into the world of Antiques and has never looked back since.
John and Mary originally created JW Butterworth Antiques from a Haunted Mill House in Clophill, set about their first Family Antiques Business together. With John searching the country of the best pieces of furniture to buy and sell, Mary ran the Showrooms they had created at the Mill.
This proved to be a masterstroke for J W Butterworth Antiques, with customers amazed by the reception they received from their host Mary and coupled with John’s knowledge, storytelling and appreciation of the Antique Furniture he was buying and selling, this soon saw them evolve the business. Leaving the Mill in Clophill they moved to a ‘Mushroom Ridden’ Old Vicarage and finally on to a 17th Century Coaching Inn in Northamptonshire where Reindeer Antiques was born in the early 70’s.
Reindeer Antiques saw John and Mary enjoy the life they had created together culminating in the introduction of their daughters, Jane and Laura to the Family Antiques business for the first time. With their two girls having experienced a childhood of customers, dealers and friends, who were most often one in the same person, they were naturals to the trade. With the girls now driving the Herbert Walton Antiques Business this represents a fitting final lasting chapter, for the Family of Antiques businesses, they have all survived and enjoyed.
